new stuff

Amazingly, the 2.6.7 kernel works on my laptop, including resuming from apm suspend. This is the first 2.6 kernel that has worked well enough on my laptop for me to use it, and it's nice to finally have caught up to the world of 2.6 only nine months after its first release. Granted, if I had gotten my act together to send in a bug report to the appopriate kernel developer, it may have started working sooner.

The new version of firefox was seriously flakey at first, and to get it to work I had to throw out and redo my entire setup, which was a serious pain. Why do good graphical browsers always end up sucking more as time goes on?

I've signed up for VOIP phone service from Vonage, and depending on how well that goes, and how much my local F&F complains about having to dial long distance to reach me, I'm hoping to drop my land line.
