random stream of conciousness

GPG signatures keep rolling in from the DebConf4 keysigning. Pity I somehow goofed saving the file of keys, so I lost my notes about whether I'd verified quite a few, and was only able to sign the keys about 10% of the attendees. I've already uploaded the few keys I was able to sign to the keyservers.

I don't check email address validity when I sign a key, and it seems that the new trend is to do so (to some degree, I can think of lots of holes in the techniques people are using), which means I've been getting lots of gpg encrypted messages whose subject purports them to be signed keys. Anyone monitoring my email is probably having some unexpected fun trying to figure out what all this encrypted traffic really is; I don't normally get much encrypted mail. I suppose that increasing the amount in use is only a good thing -- that's part of why I gpg sign all my outgoing mail after all.

I had a nice bike ride yesterday up the trail from the park in toward town. I've not biked for ages, and I rarely see many bikers around town here, so it was nice to see how much traffic that trail gets. Also rather suprising to hear three different languages in small town Bristol on that trip. It's a very well done green way, too.

I unpacked a bit from Brazil yesterday, and did laundry, and other things to prepare for this week's trip to Ocracoke. I guess the rest of the stuff that's in my bag can just stay there for the trip. I've become very bad about unpacking after trips, in fact I have still not entirely unpacked from my trip to Canada for DebConf2, which was 2 years ago. I discovered that old suitcase when I was looking for a pair of shoes -- and it still has some other stuff in it too. That's the worst, but when I packed for Brazil I had to unpack some stuff from Germany. I am just no good at dealing with objects, having them in a bag shoved away somewhere is easier.

That reminds me, I've done some moving in at the new house, which involved taking some boxes out of storage that'd been there since I moved east from California. This included a lot of stuff I'd forgotten I owned, and some things I've been missing for years. About 50% of it was thrown out though. I have very little compunctions about getting rid of belongings now, there's only a small, shrinking set of things I have attachments to.

Alternating between living in two different houses this week has been interesting, and not very stressful. I was worried that it would be a lot of trouble; glad it's not been so. I'm happy with where I am WRT work, for the first time in a couple of weeks.
