Vancouver

Currently on my way home from a brief trip to Vancouver. It's been too long (3 years?) since I was on the west coast and I enjoyed many of the things I like about being over here. Vancouver reminds me a lot of many of the parts of the Bay Area I liked the most, with few of the disagreeable bits, and the added fun of being Canadian. I'd like to spend some more time there sometime.

I stayed in a self-proclaimed "funky" hostel downtown. Definitely on the low end and more than a few days would have been annoying. But I enjoyed meeting the folks they sent to pick me up from the airport, and it reminded me of Wm. Penn House in some ways. I suspect I enjoyed it overall rather more than some other people.

I was pretty well sucked into Debian-meeting-world for the whole trip, with the only significant side trip being maybe 45 minutes spent exploring UBC and finding the cliffs and the beach. It can be hard to explain why I travel for two days total to spend two days doing the same thing I did last time in a different corner of the world with the same people as last time (but see next blog entry). I am probably due some more time for myself on the next such trip.. but didn't I promise myself that last time? Oh well.

Oh and it's official.. my body clock has been stubbornly set on PST for all the years I've been back on the east coast. Perhaps it was before I ever set foot in this timezone, so I give up.
