beach trip to remember
Leaving Ocracoke, this seems to be a beach trip I won't soon forget. From the beginning, arriving via the Cedar Island ferry and not doing the long drive down the islands to the familiar Haterass-side terminal, things were not the same; then there was the flood that drowned half the campground and town. And also so many of us were not present this year, Anna, Jerry, Tomoko, Dad. I wasn't in a tent, having my camper. Then too I didn't even get in the water until late in the second day, it was so rainy and cold. Hmm, perhaps that's not so unusual after all. Other bits that were different for me included the Long Walk, and the Missing Cat. And here I am on the ferry to Hatterass, and they've changed that too (no more old new ferries, let alone old old, fellow Okracokers).
Despite all this, it was a classic Orcracoke experience. I've kinda complained before about these trips to the beach blurring together into a certian sameness, a single memory of 25 years of the same vacation. Will be interesting to see if this one will eventually join that gestalt.
