d-i rc2
Did the release dance today. The only real problem was that I discovered a problem with usb keyboard and the 2.6 kernel on ia64, that only affects autobuilt images such as those used by rc2. Oh well, I threw it in the errata since it wasn't worth redoing the release build for this bug. So after a lot of hurry up and wait, and months of work rc2 is out.
It kinda feels anticlimactic, and we're not being swarmed with users (at least yet, I only see 15 or 20 downloads at a time), and I think that's partly because this is the first release that hasn't fixed really serious problems in a past release or added key missing features. The installer has been sufficient for a while. Of course that's the point of rc2, and from here I hope we don't have to make a big deal out of stable d-i releases. We might rev the installer for minor problems like kernel security holes, but doing so won't be a problem or even very noticible. Soon we'll open up the tree for etch d-i development, which should bring some excitement back into things.
