kite offline (until you read this)

Kite (my coloed server) has been offline now for a few days. Only the second major downtime since I put it in the colo 2 years ago, this is the first the be due to my own mistake. I was actually trying to make the system more robust when I set up a serial terminal, and turned that on in grub and rebooted, but unfortunatly grub is not happy with my serial port, and the machine won't come up now.

The onsite staff helped me figure that out, but drew the line at fiddling with the software on the machine. The coop's staff and members have so far been very slow to requests to get someone onsite and do the fairly simple fix to grub, which leaves me, along with several family members, and a number of organisations, without our server. It's been painful, I've found just how much a single point of failure kite is and I definitly need to do something about that, probably by colocating a backup system somewhere else -- maybe somewhere a bit closer to me.

Of course by the time you read this, it'll be back online or the situation will be resolved in some other way.
