Why not additionally create a metapackage from the moreutils source that depends on the collection of other tools that seem worthy?
Then the tools built by moreutils itself would go into moreutils-base, and the moreutils package would depend on moreutils-base and (depend or recommend or suggest) on bogosort, renamutls, etc.
When I started using Linux, I discovered most of the main tools by browsing the info page for coreutils. So I think that having one big package with all missing tools and proper documentation is the way to go.
The 'logcheck' program comes with another program called 'logtail' (not to be confused with another program of the same name). Here is its man-page http://logcheck.org/docs/README.logtail This program seems useful in its own right.
