The HP Mini-Note 2133 has 1280x768 8.9" display. The main downside is it uses a Via C7-M CPU.
Hendry fantasizing about new hardware
I've been pondering hard about the netbooks. I think I'll go for a Thinkpad X300 as my next upgrade after using an X61 for 18 months.
I went to a Lenovo dealer in TCR London and I think you go bargain them down to 2000USD for the X300. In America I expect you can get one for 1500USD. What I love about this X300 from what I've seen is that it has a wider fuller keyboard alongside the wider screen. There has been some talk about the steel plate being removed from the back of the keyboard on new Thinkpads. I don't think that's true after my instore test. Anyway, what I am trying to say, is play with it in a store before purchasing it.

Dell D430
if you can stand to go a bit bigger (12in widescreen), the dell d430 is lightweight and decently priced.
just like you, joey, i've been looking for small laptops with a minimum of 1024x768 screen-sizes for at least two years: they are extremely rare. there was something that was only available in asia - a panasonic that i think was called the CJ-5 (1024x768 @ 9in); there was the toshiba libretto U100 (1280x800 @ 9in); the options really are pretty limited, as 1024x600 is considered "good enough" for the "average" user.
