Where was I when ..
.. Debian woody was released? Well, falling prey to the latest meme, I had to look, since I don't remember what I was doing when woody was released. I was apparently at the farm and deep in the middle of developing mooix at the time.
.. Debian potato was released? I was at LinuxWorld San Jose taking part on insanity such as Debian release press conferences.
.. Debian slink was released? I remember sitting in my office at the house in Oakland, and working on updating the website for this one, instead of doing work for Mainsail. There was also a big thunder and lightening storm, the first I'd ever seen in the Bay Area. I described it as
It was quiet rain one minute, a strobe out the window the minute after, and WHAM! a few second later. Then every car alarm in Oakland went off.
.. Debian hamm was released? I was in Berkeley and too busy working for Mainsail to do much other than forward the debian-devel-announce message to slashdot. This was before slashdot twisted everything sent to it BTW. I also remember the IRC release party.
.. Debian bo was released? I was in Bristol and working on Mainsail and Debian, but the release seems to have escaped me.
.. Debian rex was released? I was in Bristol and had only used Debian/been a Debian developer for a few months. I did enjoy pointing out to Bruce the mistakes he made in the release annoucement. :-)
.. Debian buzz was released? I was in Bristol and was reading about this "Debian" thing for the first time on c.o.l.a.
My name is William and I'm a relatively new Debian user, sarge officially was my first and that being near its cycle end New Years Day 2007. I've wanted to thank you especially for two things, not to mention any the other things I would. First, your video about learning to fly. It helped me to learn how to get a movie viewer working on my first Debian install. Many nice people at forums.debian.net helped me to get it in working order. http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=53016&highlight=#53016 as well as several of my favorite Pink Floyd songs it reminded me of, Learning to fly - High Hopes. Second, a blog of yours dated around the relase of etch, iirc where you described how you made a minimal chroot environment - from scratch - that didn't do very much yet... Thank you for being a "great" inspiration to me.
