work..

First day in Charlottesville on this one month gig. Lots of interesting and very small arm hardware (pack of cards size and up), typical first day on the job brain-dump. A bit of pressure already to decide if I want this to be a perminant job, tempting in several ways but I don't know. Not even sure I can manage this 9-5 + commute thing that people seem to have so much stock in for more than a month.

Charlottesville has a nice small college town atmosphere, with the office right on an enjoyable downtown pedestrian street and some good food. Got my Greek food fix tonight for the first time in too long. Looking forward to some good bookstores too.

I got to see d-i from the perspective of using it on some custom non-standard hardware and trying to figure out how to automate it and customise it. For exampple, I'd never really seen the way d-i is kinda broken if you run a daily build and try to install testing -- using the rest of d-i from testing -- as a problem, but it is a problem if you want currentish d-i that's likely to still work when you try to use it. Also initrd preseeding is a rather killer feature that we should not have left out of the sarge d-i. It'll be good to use this experience to improve things.
